Summary and Job Duties:

Assists the Coordinator of Transportation in managing the operation of the Winchester Public Schools transportation program.  Further, the following details are essential functions and typical tasks of the position:

 

  • Analyzes bus routes and schedules and makes recommendations for changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the transportation program.
  • Assists in resolving issues that arise in the operation of the transportation program.
  • Provides direction and supervision to bus drivers in the absence of the transportation coordinator.
  • Trains new bus drivers.
  • Coordinates First-Aid and DPS training for bus drivers.
  • Assists in the interviewing and hiring recommendations of bus drivers.
  • Assists in yearly driver/aide evaluations.
  • Drives the school bus as needed, transporting students to and from school.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the principal, which are applicable to this position and in accordance with Winchester Public Schools policies and procedures.
  • Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies.
  • Computer skills, proficient with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access); Google Sheets and Google Docs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

In absence of the Coordinator of Transportation, supervise all personnel assigned to the transportation department. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Good driving record and Commercial Driving License with P&S endorsement required; must be able to become a State Certified Driver Trainer and a Red Cross First Aid Instructor

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A combination of training and experience demonstrating ability to perform essential job duties; prior experience driving a bus required

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE AND REGISTRATIONS: 

Valid Virginia Commercial Driving License with Passenger endorsement.

Duties performed typically in settings to include: Central/City office and schools/departments
throughout division/city. Frequent walking, stooping, standing, squatting, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. Regular contact with city/school employees is required.

 

Salary:  

Range for the 2023-2024 school year is $42,564 to $88,318.  Benefits are provided as well.

 

Workday:

Full time / 12 month/ 260 Day Position/ 8 hours per day
